Shopping List

Things I have to buy:

  1. New speedo cable
  2. Light Switch
  3. Blower switch
  4. Wiper switch
  5. Four way fuse box
  6. Electric cooling fan
  7. Fan belt
  8. Fluids (brake, clutch, engine oil, gearbox oil, coolant, screen wash)
  9. Door glass
  10. 2 x door handles
  11. Carpet adhesive
  12. Screen wash bottle (and motor)
  13. Oil pressure feeder pipe
  14. Earthing strap – not required
  15. New battery cables (12v)
  16. Rear hatch seals (top and bottom)
  17. Bonnet seals (top and bottom)
  18. Rear window seals
  19. New nuts and bolts (MGB Hive?)

Things I have to check:

  1. Front and rear brake operation – check the operation of front calipers and rears shoes. Consider replacement of pads and shoes
  2. Have the bonnet realigned – partially done
  3. Modify the bonnet safety catch to operate correctly

Jobs to do:

Engine

  1. Complete all bolts on engine mounts
  2. Fit the earthing strap – ensure bare metal contact
  3. Check on how to fit the front pulley correctly
  4. Fit alternator
  5. Fit fan belt

Cooling System

  1. Install radiator shroud
  2. Install radiator and hoses
  3. Install oil cooler and hoses

Fuel and Exhaust System

  1. Fit fuel pump and complete pipework
  2. Fit carburettors
  3. Fit throttle cable
  4. Fit air filters
  5. Fit exhaust manifold and system

Ignition system

  1. Fit coil and connect to wiring loom
  2. Fit distributor and set timing – connect to wiring loom
  3. Fit new spark plugs (set gap)
  4. Charge battery or replace with new – fit battery cover to interior
  5. Fit new battery cables

Gearbox

  1. Fit gear lever
  2. Fit gearlever surround
  3. Fit cross-member correctly
  4. Fit speedometer cable to gearbox

Clutch

  1. Charge with fluid, bleed system and check operation

Braking System

  1. Charge with fluid, bleed system and check operation

Electrical System

  1. Connect wiring loom to all remaining components including dash

Interior

  1. Fit the wiper motor, wipers and washers
  2. Install new door glass and winder (remove quarter lights, fit chrome/ rubber sealing strip)
  3. Install new exterior door handles
  4. Fit heating system – hoses, grilles, control cables, control knobs
  5. Fit the dash (loose fit initially)
  6. Check on all interior trim and do an inventory to understand what new trim needs to be bought
  7. Fit the new carpets
  8. Fit replacement temp/oil gauge
  9. Fit new switches
  10. Fit seat belts (consider new)
  11. Find all seat runner components, replace bolts and fit seats

Bodywork

  1. Rear hatch seals
  2. Chrome side strips
  3. Chrome gutter trims
  4. Chrome rear window trims (remove windows) and seals
  5. Consider fitting the rear bumper
